Advanced Level

On a good day, this site is by far the best site in the area and one of the best in the country. Pinnacles of imposing rock that rises from a depth. The most pelagic spot at Caño Island offers new surprises every day.

Depth: 30 to 50 feet // 10-17 meters

A small cave that has what you imagine: sharks. Although we do not enter the cave, swim as close enough to see them and occasional manta rays and stripes can be found here too. A very exciting dive.

Here unique formations come together in the form of arches and swim through these imposing rocks under the water and see the life of existing fish is really a unique experience.

Nicknamed the boat and also known as “El Sharko,” by the large number of sharks that can be seen here.  Although there is no shipwreck, abundant fish life and a great dive with reef white tip sharks, mantas rays Giants and turtles.

Near the Ranger Station, this site has large number of sharks white tip, as well as schools of grunts, snappers, King of angels and eels burrow. This point also offers to the observant diver the opportunity to see the Scorpion fish of rock well camouflaged

At this point we have the largest concentration of hard corals in the area. This surface dive allows you to view the many creatures of reef that wander through these funds completely carefree diver looking them without disturbing.

Here you can discover some wonderful wall diving and are home to an enormous amount of marine life, pristine corals and more. The diversity of soft and hard corals in Caño Island is unmatched anywhere else in Costa Rica.

PARADISE

Depth of 60 to 70 feet // 20 to 23 meters

Advanced Level

Excellent place to see the reef shark. Also big schools of barracudas, blue stripped Snappers and grunts. It is occasional school of mobula rays slipping here us around in very large groups of between 50 and 60 copies.

On the main rocks of paradise we can see groups of more than 20 white tip sharks resting under rock overhangs. These elegant and quiet creatures of day, sometimes allow the diver to swim very close to their resting places.

When you come diving with CRAD you only need to bring your certification cards and your personal items as sunglasses, sunscreen, swimsuit and a cameras.

Summer months at Drake Bay can be exceptionally busy and the daily spaces on the island are limited, so booking with time means that we can guarantee your space on the boat.

One suggestion

The purchase of an insurance DAN (Divers Alert Network) is highly recommended before arriving in Costa Rica. The cost of basic coverage is around 35 USD and it is worth having it in the case of unforeseen or accident.

A typical day of diving with CRAD begins at 7 a.m. and we normally return to Drake Bay around 1 p.m.

Caño Island is located about 45 minutes from Drake Bay, offering our guests picture-perfect scenic boat rides and the possibility to see dolphins or whales.

Surface intervals are spent on Caño Island where there is a nice beach, wild green vegetation and where there are toilet facilities.

We dive a maximum of three tanks a day on our day tours, not counting night dives.

Our tanks are aluminium 80 cft (or 11.1 liter) tanks.

Divers’ safety is a top priority at CRAD. Our custom-built dive boats are made for maximum safety and comfort, equipped with Radio, cell phones, Emergency Oxygen Kits, First Aid Kits, and a full canopy for sun protection.
